Cleaning carpet in White Bear LakeIf you have upcoming holiday gatherings or soirees planned at your White Bear Lake home, you might be feeling a bit self-conscious about your dingy, worn-down carpet. Fortunately, our Floor Coverings International White Bear Lake experts know some easy ways to refresh your carpet using items you may already have on hand. Give one of these ideas a try before your next get-together:

The Ice Cube Trick

If you have areas where there are dents from furniture, you can use ice cubes to fix these spots. Just place an ice cube on each indentation and let it melt. Use a fork to fluff up the pile, and then dab the area with a clean towel. This method will make those dented areas look good as new.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar are great for raising pile and removing small stains. You can also use this technique to help remove stubborn pet hair, since the baking soda will loosen it.

Sprinkle a good amount of baking soda on the affected area. Use a stiff brush to work the powder into the carpet. Use short strokes in all directions, and use pressure that is firm but not forceful. Let the baking soda sit overnight. Vacuum up the powder and then spray the area with a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar. Use the stiff brush to fluff the area, and pat dry with a clean towel.

Cornstarch

You can use cornstarch as a safe, non-toxic cleaner for greasy stains. Sprinkle a generous amount of cornstarch on the stained area and let it sit for at least six hours. Vacuum up the cornstarch and then apply a mix of three parts water and one part vinegar. Blot dry with a clean towel. Repeat as necessary until the stain is lifted.

These easy, natural cleaning methods will help you refresh your carpet just in time for the holiday season.
