For all its natural beauty, Minnesota hits its residents with some pretty tough Winters, and the Autumns can be pretty unforgiving, as well. This is especially true in White Bear Lake. If you live or vacation here, it’s because you want to be close to nature. If you love sailing, hiking, or just taking long walks through the trees, there might not be a prettier town in all of the US. But let’s be honest, what’s the best part of spending an afternoon in the great outdoors? Coming back inside in the evening, warming yourself up with a mug of coffee, tea or cocoa, and enjoying the scenery from the other side of the window. That’s why at Floor Coverings International White Bear Lake we often recommend plush carpet to our customers who are looking to put comfort first.
Hardwood flooring can be inviting and homey, it’s great for the living room or the kitchen or the home office, but when you want to lay out in front of the fire or kick off your shoes in the bedroom, it’s hard to match the comforting feel of plush carpeting.
Here’s what you need to know before having your plush carpet installed:
Cleaning Takes a Lighter Touch
With a shorter, rougher carpet, you can go pretty tough on stains. Plush carpeting is much more delicate. The longer fibers can become knotty and matted very quickly if you’re not careful. Use a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar on it, and take your time cleaning each part before moving on to the next. Use gentler cleaning solutions when shampooing, and make sure to clean up spills immediately, as softer carpets tend to absorb stains quickly.
Don’t Install Plush Carpeting in High-Foot-Traffic Areas
A plush carpet is amazing for the bedroom, okay for the living room, and a terrible choice for the hallway. Preferably you’re using plush carpeting in a room where you’re not going to be wearing shoes at all, but at the very least, it should be somewhere where nobody’s stomping around in high heels or cowboy boots.
Rearrange Your Furniture Regularly
Leaving your bed and dresser in one spot for too long will result in crushed, matted carpeting underneath. You can either move your furniture around regularly, or never move it, but if you leave your dresser in one spot for a year and then decide it’d look better in the opposite corner, you’re going to have a big flat spot in your carpet.
Plush carpeting isn’t the most high-maintenance flooring material in the world, but it does require a little more care than some. Keep your carpet clean and fluffy, and it’ll keep your feet cozy for years to come. Contact Floor Coverings International White Bear Lake to learn about our plush carpet selection!
