At Floor Coverings International White Bear Lake, we offer a wide selection of engineered hardwood flooring. Our customers love this alternative to other wood flooring because it combines the simple installation of laminate floors with the durability of solid hardwood flooring. Our assortment features classics like oak in addition to modern options such as bamboo engineered flooring.
Engineered Flooring Background
This flooring choice has a thin layer of finished hardwood on top (called the lamella) with layers of unfinished hardwood underneath (called the core or substrate). The middle layer, laid crossways, adds extra strength. Overall, there are usually between 3 and 12 layers in each plank. The more layers, the more durable the flooring will be.
There are tons of different engineered flooring designs. You can choose the type of wood you like, along with the stain and finish. Some of the most popular wood species include Maple, Oak, Cherry, Walnut, and Bamboo.
Water Resistance: The multi-layer construction of engineered hardwood planks allows the wood to expand and contract more easily with varying levels of moisture.
Durability: Engineered hardwood is incredibly durable thanks to the high pressure that’s used during construction. It is a great choice for high-traffic areas in your home or business.
Lifespan: Unlike laminate flooring, engineered hardwood can be refinished once or twice during its lifetime. Even after it has become scratched or scuffed over time, you can make your floor look like new again!
Cost: Engineered hardwood is less expensive than solid hardwood flooring.
Installation: Each plank comes pre-finished, often ready to be clipped together. This makes the installation process fast and easy.
One thing to keep in mind about engineered hardwood is that it can only be refinished once or twice. If you are looking for flooring that will last as long as possible, it might be a better idea to choose solid hardwood.
